John Bell is a Scottish actor who made his acting debut in Doctor Who in 2007, when he won a competition and was cast as Creet in the episode "Utopia." He was cast as Young Ian Murray, a beloved character who first appears in season 3 of Outlander. Young Ian is Jamie Fraser's youngest nephew and while he has pledged to look out for him, Ian is one of those characters who goes along his merry way and is often thrust into peril and intrigue, being kidnapped by pirates and almost sacrificed. His family often sees him as an adolescent but with his trusty companion Rollo, Young Ian becomes a man at the end of season 4, based Drums of Autumn, when he trades himself for the life of Roger MacKenzie, and Young Ian decides he wants to stay and become one of the Mohawk. John has also been in A Shine of Rainbows, The Life of Riley, Hattie, the BAFTA winner Tracy Beaker Returns, The Wrath of the Titans, The Hobbit, Battleship, and Midsomer Murders. He is very close to his family and lives in the UK with his two cats, Archer and Felicia.
